Show FARMERS GATHER TO LISTEIJOLECTIIRES Demonstration Train Given an Enthusiastic Welcome in Tooele County. Special to The Tribune. VERNON, March C. The entire town of Vernon and the towns and farming districts surrounding declared a holiday today for the purpose of welcoming the Salt Lako Route-Utah Agricultural college col-lege special demonstration train, which arrived here ihls morning. The train was crowded during the morning with farmers, who Ilstoncd with keen Interest to the lectures and carefully examined the exhibits of model dairying and dry-1 farm methods Tho farmers of Vernon and vicinity, most of whom aro keenly Interested in dairying, which has secured a good beginning begin-ning In this section, listened to a talk on dairying by Bon R. Eldredge. special agent of the dairy dlvlBlon of the United States department of agriculture and president of the Utah State Dairymen's association. Mr. Eldredge laid special stress upon the value of silos and explained ex-plained that dozens of silos had been built during the last year by farmers of Salt Lako valley. He declared that the cutting of feed and storing It In the proper kind of silos will mean much In actual returns, as It will increase th milk yield of the cows. Frank S. Harris and Professor J. II. Stewart of the Utah Agricultural college discussed d ry-farming methods, and W. II. Lee, traveling freight and passenger agent of tho Salt Lake Route, talked on the relations botween the railroads and the farmers. Next to tho dairy address by Mr. Eldredge, the dry farms addresses were most Important, as this section Is composed mostly of dry farms. Professor L. A. Merrill, agricultural expert ex-pert of the Salt Lako Route, and Professor Pro-fessor L. M. Wlnsor, who returned to Salt Lake, leaving the train at Tooele, returned last evening and Joined the train early this morning at Vernon. They were accompanied by W. W. McLaugulln of Logan. Irrigation engineer of the United States department of agriculture. Professor Harris. Professor Stewart and Mr. Lee. who spoke yesterday at Vernon, left Salt Lake yesterday morning and Joined the train a; Tooele. The train will be at Nada today. |
