Show Ex-Senator Massey Drops Dead on Train End Comes to Nevada Lawyer Law-yer and Statesman Near Susanville, Cal. RENO, New, March 5. Former United Statcs-Senutor-W. A. Massey of this city died today while on route from Reno to Susanville, Cal., on legal business. Immediately Im-mediately beforo crossing the California Califor-nia lino he complained of feeling ill, but after hnlf an hour he said he felt well and left tho smoking car, entering enter-ing another car. Shortly after engaging engag-ing in conversation with a townsman on the train he was seen to be in distress and expired quickly. His death is attributed to heart trouble. Mr. Massey served as United States senator from Nevada from July, 1912, to January 29, 1913, being appointed by Governor Oddie to fill tho vacancy caused by the death of tho lato Senator Sena-tor Georgo S. Nixon. Ho was a can didate of the Republican party for election in November, 1912, when the people voted for choico for the offico, and was defoated by oighty-six votes. IIo had served as justice of the supreme su-preme court of Nevada from 1896 to 1902, resigning to enter private practice, prac-tice, no was recognized as ono of the leaders of the Navnda bar. IIo was born in Oakfield, Perry county, Ohio, camo west in 18S6 and was 5S years of age. |
