Show Students start training for Special Olympics Dr. W. David Trafton and Public Health Nurse Kathy MacRae gave physicals to students Friday, April 16 in preparation for the special Olympics which will be held May 7 in St. George. The physical examinations were done as a part of the many services rendered by Dr. Trafton and others in the Public Health Department, according to Kimball Weaver, Specialist for the disabled. ' Following the Regional Olympics in St. George, the group will attend the State Olympics in Salt Lake on May 14 I and 15. I In connection with the I Olympics each school will have a princess to represent them. Kathy Haight and Nicole Mun-j Mun-j ford will represent Cedar City I Schools. The princesses will be I guests at a beauty parlor and at a I dance, as well as leading the parade prior to the Olympics. The special Olympics will I include wheelchair activities as I well as the 50 yard dash, the soft I ball throw, and the standing I broad jump. I Mrs. Linda Blanchard in- dicates that her students are I working on chicken fat records in r. I order to get in shape as well as learning to dance. Some of the students attending the Special Olympics will include: in-clude: Sue Larson, Gordon Stokes, Laurie Stephens, Carol Ann Williams, Raymond Heaton (a former medal winner In racing), Kelly Knell, Robert Lawrence, Lynda Snyder, Kathy Haight, Danny Lister, and Jack Christensen. Other students participating will be: Susan Gurr, Tammi Heaton, Penny Robinson, Nicole Munford, Jodie Dutton, Brenda Griffin, Tamara Davis, Lisa White, Brooks Dalton, Emery Bryant Kelly Stout, and Jeff Funk. Mrs. Blanchard indicates that any financial help in the way of a sponsor would be greatly appreciated. ap-preciated. The students would like to make a 4 day trip of it when they go to Salt Lake and have plans to visit the old State capitol in Fillmore enroute. Other plans on the agenda include a visit to the planetarium and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. |
