Show SUSC among statistical leaders in NAIA The Southern Utah State College baseball team is among the statistical leaders in District 7 of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, (NAIA). The T-Birds led in two of the team categories, pitching, 3.32 ERA and fielding (.944). On an individual basis Tony Zockell of SUSC is the District 7 leader with a .396 after 18 games. His teammate, Kevin Jensen, is second in the batting race with a .380 average. Mike Marini of the T-Birds is the lead in home runs (.025 per game) and runs batted in (1.30 per game) while Greg Johnson of Southern Colorado is second in both categories. Grand Canyon College is setting the pace as the top club with a record of 27 wins and 10 losses. They also hold the lead in team battling with a .298 average and are second, behind SUSC in pitching with a 3.48 ERA , average. Ben Gallegos of Adams State . leads in pitching with a 0.96 ERA while Tom Tellmann of Grand Canyon with a record of nine wins and no losses is second with an ERA of 1.65. Leading the District in doubles is Ed Kristensen with an average of .14 per game. He is followed by Greg Johnson of Southern Colorado. Markoff of Southern Colorado is the leader in triples with .26 per game average with Rick Sabell of Grand Canyon second with an average of .14 per game. The stolen base leader is Hallstrom of Grand Canyon (.62 per game) while Rudy Garz? of Highlands is in second with an average of .53 per game. In team battling the T-Birds are third with a .290 mark. Jim Tillotson of SUSC is sixth in pitching with an ERA of 2.51 with 33 and a third innings worked and Tamilos has eight stolen bases in 21 games for an average of 0.38 per game to put him in fourth . place in the district statistics. |
