Sometimes I think it would be easier to be a truck driver or a deisel mechanic. It's hard to adjust to the fact that you are solely responsible for the care and upkeep of a house and the people in it. You clean it, they mess it up. You fix meals, they eat them. If they ate boys, they throw clothes down and you pick them up. You wash them out of four glasses of milk, the grease will always splatter on the stove, and the potatoes will always boil over in the oven. This time of year, as the flu goes around, the kids will throw up in their beds a lot-they never can seem to make i to the proper outlet--the self-defrosting refrigerators will still require a little help, and if you have a one or two-year old child, you will have to take care of all this with he or she hanging around your leg whining. There is one nice, peaceful time when you can forget all this and they play outside in the mud. Mothers seem to be the only ones who can bend over and pick up objects off the floor and under the chiars, wash out the bath tub, wring out the dish cloth, put a new toilet paper roll on the holder, put the cap on the toothpaste, tooth-paste, and find lost gym shoes. I once found a gym shoe in the vegetable crisper of the refrigerator. No one has ever figured out how it got there unless someone threw it in in a |
