Show City Council grants zone changes; anticipates increase in sewer fees The Cedar City Council along with the City Planning and Zoning Commission has recommened approval and granted the request of Wittwer Motels to re-zone the land of 200 North and 1000 West from Residential to Highway Service, at their regular Thursday meeting of April 15. The City Planning and Zoning committee denied a request to call for a public hearing to consider a zone change from R-2 to R-3 in a portion of the Cedar Crest Subdivision. A public hearing was called for May 6 to consider a request to change the west one-half of the 200 to 300 West Block between 200 North and 400 North from Residential to Commerical. , Another public hearing will be held the same day to consider a ' request to change Pioneer Park Subdivision loacated in the SouthEast part of Cedar City from R-l to R-2 zone. There will also be a public hearing on another zone change request from R-l to R-2 in the Pinewood Subdivision, just north of 1045 North street and West of Main Street. States Government through EPA -$2,164,575, according to Mayor Kerry Jones. He continued, "Citizens should ( be reminded that the presnt , three-month service charge of $2 , generates $16,000 per year which , the City uses to operate the existing sewerage plant and collection system" The City Council's decision has been to have user fees generate cash rather than use a property tax mill levy. All pepole who are now connected con-nected to the city sewer systems should be preparing their budgets to accomodate a 400 to 600 percent increase in sewer charges, beginning with the first month the sewer plant goes into operation, stated Jones. "It is estimated that the plant will be finished between July and September of 1976" Jones said. , Actual charges, per connection, con-nection, depending on the number of fixtures on the connection, con-nection, will range for a home minimum of $8 per quarter to $32 per quarter plus a sur-charge of 10-20 cents per thousand gallons above average load dumped into the system. Bond Election Dick Christensen, representing Burrows, Smith and Company, discussed Bond Election details related to the proposal that Cedar City hold a bond election to see if local citizens want to construct a new city Ad-misnistration Ad-misnistration Building. Mr." Christensen was asked by the Council to make preparations for a bond elections to be held in June or July of 1976. Public meetings will be held to let the City Council, The Building Committee and the Architect outline the building proposal and to . accept suggestions and criticisms from citizens. Water Spillage r . ' The Cedar City Council was informed that defective weld on a base panel of the recently erected Vk million gallon water tank in Cedar Canyon had ruptured rup-tured causing the spillage of the. contents of the tank. Damage was minimal, according ac-cording to Mayor Jones, the contractor has been notified of the defect and repairs are presently in process, with total value of water loss at $500. Wastewater Treatment Plant A review of total anticipated costs to finish the Wastewater Treatment Plant Facility were reviewed, at the Cedar City Council meeting. The Denter EPA Office has advised that they will increase their contribution by $129,375 to assist in completion com-pletion of the third and final pumping, distribution and storage phase. .Total costs are now estimated to be $2,886,100 with Cedar City contributing $585,925, Four Corners -$135,600 and the United Proposed Summer Recreation Wayne Mifflin, City Schools recreation director, submitted, an outline of the proposed 1976 summer recreation activities at the City Council meeting.. They will involve a framework which will accomodate increased youth participation and will involve a more intensive use of city and school facilities.
