Show Granery burns in Paragonah By Hilma Lamoreaux PARAGONAH - There was a great deal of excitement in town early Saturday when fire broke out in a granary adjacent to the Don Barton home and burned the building to the ground. Mrs. Barton was aroused from sleep about 2 a.m. to find flames leaping higher than the house and by the time she had awakened her husband, neighbors neigh-bors arrived on the scene. The touring car was moved to safety. . Paragonahs little fire hose was brought just in time to save the home which by then was scorched scor-ched and starting to burn. Parowan's Fire Department arrived in time to help with the last stages of the operation. It is assumed that cause of the fire was a large electric globe being used to brood 100 baby chicks housed in the granary. All . of the chicks and the pet cat . perished in the fire. Other losses were a new roto-tiller, roto-tiller, chain saws, tools, grain, storage items in the cellar underneath un-derneath the building including bottled and canned goods, some valuable heirloom furniture, boxes of pictures, etc. Since the granary was only about 15 feet away from, the home it was very fortunate that the house had only minimal damage. |
