Major Robert J. Binford, Twentieth infantry, in-fantry, at Fort Douglas, received orders yesterday transferring him to duty with a regiment now located at Camp Forrost, Georgia. It is expected he will move, with his regiment, to France In the near future. He will leave for Camp Forrest within the next two or three days. Major Binford is the oldest oflicer, In point of continuous service, now with the Twentieth infantry. He has served thirteen thir-teen consecutive vears with tiiis organization. organ-ization. His departure the first of the week will leave the regiment without an assigned oflicer of the rank of major, and captains now at the post will perlorm the duties of majors of the three battaJions of the regiment. As ranking officer, under the colonel, Major Binfo.d lus been acting lieutenant-colonel lieutenant-colonel and in charge of the military training of the Twentieth. He is considered consid-ered one of the most efficient ofticers the regiment has ever had. Major Binford was instructor in military mili-tary tactics at the Utah Agricultural college col-lege at Logan a number of years ago and while there married a Logan girl. After leaving tho college he was assigned to the Twentieth infantry, and has been with that organization since. When the regiment returned from the Mexican border bor-der Major Binford, who was then a captain, cap-tain, was made regimental quartermaster and served in that capacity until ho was promoted to the rank of major. Since that lime he has been In charge of the training of ihe entire regiment. Officers and men of the Twentieth regret re-gret to see the major leave the regiment. |
