Show CALVIN F. SMITH IS MADE CHAPLAIN Son of Mormon. Church Head in Close Touch With Soldiers at Camp Lewis. Special to The Tribune. CAMP LEWIS, Wash., March 9. Calvin Cal-vin F. Smith, son of President Joseph F. Smith of the Mormon church, was appointed ap-pointed chaplain of the 362nd infantry today. Mr. Smith had been at Camp Lewis more than a week without any definite assignment or abiding place. With his appointment to the chaplaincy of the 362nd, he has been given a room in one of the bunk houses of the rogi-ment, rogi-ment, which from now on will be his "home." He is already in close touch with all the men from Utah and Idaho. The officers have extended him a hearty reception. . Miss Maud Powell, assisted by Mr. Loesser, appeared, at the Liberty theater before an audience of 3000 soldiers and i civilians Thursday. Miss Powell con- firmed her high reputation and could have taken many encores. Mr. Loesser rendered three selections' in addition to accompanying Miss Powell. The song, "'Where Do We Go From Here?" is now in great vogue throughout through-out the cantonment. It is in the air that the time for the overseas journey is approaching, and the popular retrain seems to hit the fancy of the soldiers. |
