Show ENEMY JUJEHS HAVE i LEGISTI11S Judge Bramel Rules in Suit for Damages in District Court. The fact that enemy aliens have no standing in the courts of this country, during the continuance of the war, was brought home to half a dozen subjects of Austria and one of Germany yesterday yester-day by a ruling in Judge W. II. Bramel Bra-mel 's division of the third district court. Several suits had been brought against a mining company to recover damages for alleged personal injuries. Appearing before the court yesterday morning Attorney D. N. Straup, former judge of the state supreme court, offered of-fered a motion for suspension of the case until such time as peace shall have been achieved. The motion was promptly allowed by the court. After the war has terminated the issues between the United States and the countries of which the plaintiffs are subject, and peace has become established, estab-lished, the cases in question may be called up for trial. Until that time, they remain ou the calendar without further action of the court. The ruling of the court iu the matter is in accordance accor-dance with established practice in both the United States and England. No alien enemy may bring suit in any court, though he may defend an action brought against him. |
