REMOVES BAN ON CAR RACING Almost Universal Request From Motorists Motor-ists for Speed Contests Has Desired Effect. tAt a special meeting of the American Automobile association held last week, it was decided to resume its control of automobile auto-mobile racing for the season of 191S. It was agreed to rescind its discontinuation ferder of last November and to conduct V- sport on a larger and more elaborate scale than ever before. An almost universal request from motorists mo-torists for the resumption of speed contests con-tests had its effect. Another element which prompted the A. A. A. to lift the ban was the hearty approval expressed by high government officials, including the nation's chief executive, for the continuation con-tinuation of all sport competitions during the war. Still another factor was the assurance of -international competition, as several of the European champion drivers had signified signi-fied their intention of coming over in quest of the big prize money and glory attached to winning the speed classics. Chairman Kennerdell of t he contest board said last night that, his colleagues would shortly take-up the matter of the 191S circuit. Three dates for speed carnivals have tentatively been assigned to the Sheepp head Bay speedway, these being May 30 (Memorial day), August IS and September 21.
