Show NOTICEABLE DROP IN NUMBER OF BIRTHS That the stork has been going about on crutches recently is indicated by the weekly report of the city board of health, just issued, which shows forty-six forty-six births and thirty-seven deaths during dur-ing the past week, this being thirty-nine thirty-nine fewer births and twelve more deaths than in the corresponding week of last year, when births outnumbered deaths by more than three to one. Contagious disease coses reported for the week numbered 226, as follows: Whooping cough, 63; mumps, 58; German Ger-man measles, 35; chickenpox, 26; smallpox, small-pox, 18; diphtheria, 10; measles, 8; scarlet fever, 7, and typhoid fever, 1. |
