Show CAN RAiSE PLENTY ON SINGLE ACRE Average Man Can -Sustain Family on Products, Realty Expert Says. The claim that a man can, by his own efforts, raise enough vegetables to supply his family practically the year around on an acre of land at Val Verda is fully substantiated by M. C. Brown, local railroad rail-road man, according to V. A. Bettilyon, president of Bettilyon Home Builders company, promoters of the Val Verda tract. Mr. Brown owns an acre at Val Verda, but as vet has not erected a home there. Although still living in the city, he spent several afternoons each week last summer cultivating his acre at Val Verda, and kept it in excellent condition all during last season. As a result, he raised watermelons, cantaloupes, potatoes, onions, turnips, carrots, sweet corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, string beans, lettuce, radishes in fact, practicallv all kinls of garden truck. By fall he had gathered enough from his acre to last his family throughout the winter. "Mr. Brown's is not an exceptional case," commented Mr. Bettilyon. "He did ail this, not while living at Val Verda, but while still residing in the city. "It mav be readily seen, therefore, what a man can do who has his home in the center of his one-acre tract. He loses no time going back and forth, except to and from his work in the city morning and evening, and he has plenty of time to cultivate his acre.
