Georpre Sim, representing the war recreation recre-ation service at Fort Douglas, held a conference yesterday morning with the company commanders at the fort and explained ex-plained to them the work he is attempting attempt-ing to do tor the entertainment of the soldiers and Invited their suggestions and counsel. i The officers, from Colonel Alfred Has-brouck, Has-brouck, post commander, down the line, congratulated Mr. Sim upon the work he has already done and assured him of their heartiest co-operation and help in anything he might undertake tending toward to-ward the wholesome amusement of the soldiers when off duty. Mr. Sim explained to them that now ha Is preparing to have a swimming pool provided for the men and that Colonel Hasbrouck has granted the use of the old Ice pond at the fort, which has been abandoned for some years. This pond is now being cleaned out and prepared for tiie reception of water, after which it will be made a bathing and swimming pool for tiie general use of the enlisted men at the post. Tlie recreaticn expert also explained that Julian Bamoerger has given 8000 tickets for soldiers to visit Lagoon on Saturdays and Sundays, 500 to be used each Saturday and 500 each Sunday. Mr. Sim informed the officers he had heard that probably the soldiers would not desire de-sire to use these tickets and he wanted to know their attitude. The company commanders gave assurance that the men would want to use the tickets and would use them If the matter were given proper publicity and the tickets were distributed each week early enougn for the men to make their plans accordingly. It was promised that this would be done, ana the company commanders will underlVe to talk to their men about the matter of using tickets to the T -agoon. to the ball game and for the automobile rides which are given each S-unday so that there will be no shortage of men for these affairs as there was 'last Sunday at the automobile automo-bile ride. It was decided that a thorough publication of tlie recreation events through the medium of company bulletin boards and talks by company officers would prevent any shortage of men for the events In the future. |
