Show PAINTER TESTIFIES FOR MOONEY DEFENSE By International News Service. SAN FRANCISCO, Cal., July 11. Charles Eruschweit, a journeyman painter, was sprung as a surprise witness wit-ness today by the defense in the trial of Mrs. Rena Mooney, to uphold the testimony of Israel Weinberg, jitney bus driver and co-defendant, that he was not the man who drove' Mrs. Mooney, her husband and Warren K. Billings to the place where a bomb was exploded during dur-ing the preparedness parade here last July. Bruschweit testified to riding in Weinberg's Wein-berg's jitney bus between 2 and 2:10 on the day of the explosion, thus placing Weinberg miles from Steuart and Market streets, where the bomb burst. The prosecution has contended that Weinberg drove the party to Steuart and Market shortly before the explosion, which occurred'at 2:0b' p. m. Mrs. Esther Kaplan, another witness, testified that she had seen Weinberg at a street corner cor-ner also miles from the scene of the explosion ex-plosion at 1:50 p. m. David J. Smith and L. M. Caraseo gave similar testimony. |
