Show SAYS SENATE, WILL MODIFY MEASURE Senator King Declares Food Control . Bill Must Be Made Simple in Provisions. Special to The Tribune. WASHINGTON, July 11. Senator William Wil-liam H. King, who has been acting as ; presiding officer of the senate during the greater portion of the debate of the food : control bill, said today lie believed that i when the senate finally passed the bill i it would provide only for control of wheat and fuel. It is becoming patent. Judge ; King believes, that the bill cannot be j loaded up with restrictions on general j lines of industry and make the law work- : able or constitutional, and the efforts of the senate will now be directed towards to-wards making tho law much simpler than is provided by the bill in its present form. As to prohibition Senator King believes the main features of the house bill will be preserved, providing for the discontinuance discon-tinuance of tin manufacture during the war of distilled liqu rs and leaving the disposition of the manufacture of beer and light wines to the Jurisdiction and discretion of the president. Senatot King is pushing for the adoption adop-tion of Ids resolution, which provides for an investigation of the present market in WasMiUTton, where extortionate prices, it is alleged. trej being charged for food-; stuffs i I |
