Show LICENSES ISSUED FOR EXPORT SHIPMENTS WASHINGTON. July 1 1. Licensing of cargoes under the export control provision provi-sion of the espionage act was begun today to-day by the department of commerce. The licenses issued were for shipments which leave American ports after July 15. when the provision becomes effective. Cargoes leaving before that time require no licenses. li-censes. Directions were issued by Secretary Sec-retary Redtield that every effort be made to expedite the licensing of coal cargoes destined for Canada. The dominion ia suffering from a coal shortage and fear has been expressed that licensing might delay shipments. The secretary made it clear that there will be no restriction on coal shipments to Canada and ordered that telegraphic application for licenses be accepted. Shipments generally, it was said today, will be permitted to continue freely until the situation has adjusted itself and a definite policy has been cta blished. Tho policy to be pursued toward neutral countries in many respects will have to bf evolved as the course of commerce in ascertained, it was said. No hard and fast, rules can be applied for the present, it was decla red. |
