Show DAILY DRILL ORDER ISSUED 10 TROOPS Recruits Will Be Put Into Company Formation by Forty-third Officers. Under orders issued yesterday by Major Ma-jor L. B. Simonds, commanding the Forty-third infantry, company drill for practically prac-tically all recruits now in the Forty-third is to be commenced, at once and continued con-tinued daily by the drill commanders. The major sets forth in his orders "that the recruits who have been under individual indi-vidual and squad training should by now be ready to be placed in the ranks and given drill in company formation. In consequence the commander directs that to the greatest extent possible the rc-' rc-' cruits be placed in ranks and given this drill. He provides that individual instruction instruc-tion may be continued at other times, unless the men are -found fitted to remain re-main in ranks. The. drill is to be held under the personal command of the organization or-ganization commander. Beginning today the period of time devoted de-voted to physical exercises and squad drill will be reduced and the time saved i in this ivarncr will be given over to cojnpany drill. The commander also directs that close order battalion drill be taken up as early as the battalion commander deems it can properly be done. Battalion commanders are directed t"o designate a period for Instruction in signaling, which is to continue con-tinue until at least two duty sergeants and four selected privates in each company com-pany are proficient in "wigwag" and the corporal and two privates of each squad are proficient in thje semaphore signaling. signal-ing. Buglers are required to qualify in both branches of signaling. Yesterday the new rifles of the Forty-third Forty-third infantry were distributed to the men of the regiment. The main thing that is lacking now is proper equipment in the form of uniforms, belts and side.-arms. side.-arms. Most of this equipment has arrived, ar-rived, it is reported, but has not been issued is-sued as yet. There lias been considerable delay in the receipt of clothing at the post, owing to the general shortage of supplies of this nature for army use, but it is expected ex-pected that the material will all be on hand within a few clays and that all units not now properly uniformed may be issued their clothing within the next few days. |
