Show FIND THAT MAN DIED OF NATURAL CAUSES That the death of John Hays Riley, whose body was found on the sidewalk in front of the La Verne hotel. 255 South First West street, early Tuesday morning, morn-ing, was caused by a fall on the street was the theory arrived at by Chief of Police J. Parley White yesterday. James Sullivan, arrested Tuesday, and James Sanderson, taken into custody yesterday, who were in Riley's company Monday night, are being held in the city jail until un-til the police investigation is completed. They declare that all three were strongly under the influence of liquor and disclaim any recollection of what occurred other than they were drinking with Riley in a saloon on Commercial street. The police learned yesterday that three men were seen from the Wilson hotel emerging from Commercial into East Second Sec-ond South street shortly after midnight, and that one of them fell, striking his head heavily against the curb. His companions com-panions escorted him down Second South toward First West street. Chief White stated last night that he was satisfied Riley was the man who fell. Hemorrhage Hemor-rhage of the brain, brought on by a fracture frac-ture of the jaw, was the cause of death. |
