A successful series of entertainments was given under the auspices of the entertainment en-tertainment committee of the Ladies ' Literary club at the- clubhouse Friday : evening and Saturday afternoon for the I benefit of the Red Cross. A programme ! of artistic dances, under the direction of Miss Denise Karrick, was given by pupils of Miss Karrick 's dancing class. Tn anticipation of "Better Baby Week." the first week in May, under the direction of the department of labor and child welfare of th General Federation Feder-ation of Women's clubs, a. meeting was held last week for the purpose of organizing or-ganizing forces to begin plans for baby week. Important state organizations which have joined in the "better baby '' moe-meut moe-meut are the Htate Home and School league of Salt Lake, the Relief society, the Voting Ladies' Mutual Improvement association, the lrent-Teacher association, associa-tion, the city board of health and the state board of health. t An important event on the clnb calendar calen-dar for this week is a meeting of the board of directors of the Utah Federation Federa-tion of Women's clubs at the Commercial Commer-cial club Thursday. The place of meeting meet-ing for the federation next fall wiil be decided and plans will be outlined for the programme. Mrs. Edward Biehsel of Ogden, president presi-dent of the federation, will preside at the meeting and other out-of-town members mem-bers of the board will be in attendance. The programme committee will confer with Mrs. Biehsel and the board concerning con-cerning the programme. The programme romniittee includes Mrs. A. X. McKay, Salt Lake, chairman; Mrs. L. D. Anderson. Ander-son. Midvale; Mrs. D. X. Straup, Salt : Lake. The Re-. B. A. Simpkin, pastor of Phillips Congregational church, will give the Palm Sunday message at the Y. W, C. A. vesper service this afternoon after-noon at 5 o'clock, the service being held in the rooms in the Continental Bank building. Miss Ada Ferguson will sing vocal solos appropriate to the day and violin solos will be contributed by Master Morris Ferguson. The hostesses for the social hour will be Mrs. A- F. Bardwell's section of the Ladies' society soci-ety of Phillips church. All women and girls are invited to be present. The girls of the M. D. club of the Granite high school gave a social Tuesday Tues-day evening in the form of a candy pull and dance. The crowd met in the school kitchen and while candy was being be-ing made games and music were enjoyed. en-joyed. Light refreshments were served. The remainder of the evening was spent in dancing, which took place in the school gymnasium. The dance cards were prettily designed by the club girls, being worked out in club colors and monogram. i The Authors1 club has finished the , study of volume 1 of Dante's ''The Divinia Comedia." The subject was concluded last Wednesday with a quizz, conducted by Mrs. A. E.'Bennion. The members all participated and a number num-ber of memory quotations from the different dif-ferent cantos were given. Because of conference week no meeting of the club will be held on Wednesday. At the meeting of the Salt Lake Woman's club, Monday, a paper on "Individualism "In-dividualism Versus Socialism" was given by Mrs. Allen T. Sanford.
