Show i I BACKWARD SEASON I HAMPERS CANNERS ' Special to The Tribune. OGDEN, March 31. There has been little or no improvement during the past week with regard to the shortage of acreage on tomatoes, peas and beans throughout the state according to H. L. Herrington, president of the Utah tanners' association. President Herrington contends that the eanners have been unable to procure pro-cure sufficient contracts to overcome the deficit. The continued backwardness backward-ness of the season also is working to the disadvantage of the canning crops, he contends, for after it is too late to put in tomatoes and peas the farmers may still increase their sugar beet acreage. acre-age. One of the principal reasons for the shortage of canning crops has been the advanced price to be paid for sugar beets and also the fact that farmers prefer pre-fer to grow sugar beets to most canning can-ning crops. |
