Show POSTMASTERS PLACED UNDER CIVIL SERVICE WASHINGTON, March 31 More than 10,000 first, second and third class postmasters were placed under civil service ser-vice today by executive order of President Presi-dent Wilson. ' Present incumbents of office are not affected, but in the future when vacancies vacan-cies occur as the result of death, resignation resig-nation or removal the civil service commission com-mission will hold open competition examinations. ex-aminations. The name of the highest eligible candidate will then be submitted submit-ted to the president. No person more than 65 years of age shall be examined. Although the order is framed to remove re-move postmasters from politics, the senate, sen-ate, however, has the right to reject the president's appointees. - |
