Show BORAH STATES HIS POSITION ON WAR QUESTION Special to The Tribune. WASHINGTON. March 31. Senator Borah has telegraphed as follows to several sev-eral of his constituents who have asked his views on the present situation: "It is my purpose to support the government gov-ernment iu any measure, necessary for the maintenance of its honor and the protection of the lives of nur cit-inc But if the programme includes anything like loaning the credit of this government, govern-ment, or opening the public treasury to any European nation, or sending "our soldiers to the treuches of the allies, or J forming alliances with European powers, 1 shall not support that part of th programme. pro-gramme. I want to protect American lives and American rights wherever and hy whoever assailed, whether in Mexico Mex-ico or in Europe, by one belligerent or another. But I will support no alliances, and that, in my judgment, is the thing for which a great many people are driving driv-ing at, rather than for the protection of American citizens." I |
