Show Oram Downs Vikos ByD'AVE WIGHAM If Viewmont Coach Monte, Jones had a grey hair for every turnover his club has accomplished this year, his head would look like Johnny Carson's. TO SAY THE Vikes have had more turnovers than Dees would be an understatement. Mrry 1 couldn't resist it. All three of Orem's scores, and the safety, were set up by Viewmont's fumbling act. VIEWMONT'S touted defense set up the Vikings first score as linebacker Brad Rosser intercepted a pass and returned it to the Orem twelve yard line. After a short pass from Eden to Todd Jones to the Orem four yard line, Jones bulled over for the score. With Jim Tingey adding ad-ding the extra point, the Vikes had a 7-0 lead. Just before the quarter ended the Tigers scored their first touchdown through the air on a 25 yard scoring strike from Qb Carlson to wide receiver John Peck. The try for two points was no good, leaving the Vikes with a 7-6 lead. THE VIKES then mounted a good drive to the Orem 19 yard line, but then their turnover turn-over act took over and the Tigers recovered a Vike fumble fum-ble at that spot. The Tigers wasted no time getting on the board again. and again it was the Carlson to Peck combination for a 32 yard strike. This time the two point conversion was good, giving the Tigers a 14-7 half-timelead. half-timelead. THE THIRD quarter was more of the same, as far as turnovers go, as the Tigers recovered another Vike fumble fum-ble this time on the Vike 12 yard line. For the third time Carlson hit Peck for the score and with the extra point the Tigers had a 21-7 lead. After neither team could move the ball a punting contest con-test took place, first with the Vikes punting, then the Tigers. One big difference though, Orem held onto the ball when they received it, the Vikes didn't. THE BALL came down on the Vike 5 yard where a Vike tried to field it but was hit immediately and fumbled into in-to the end zone. A Vike fell on the ball saving the touchdown but giving a safety for the final score. Viewmont did threaten again late in the game, but the old turnover trick was played one more time, this time on the Orem 15 yard line. Following a punt to them, the Vikes did get on the board again with Hess going ' the final yard on a quarterback quarter-back sneak. OREM DOES have a good . ball club, but the Vikes did just about everything possible to hand the Tigers the game. |
