Show F-1 1 1 FighSero Soar Over HHtaEi I e of Nelis Air Force j ;'h Tallica Fighting Wing (TFW) are flying their swing-wing F-llls over low- level routes in California, Nevada, Arizona and Utah. THE ROUTES are planned to make maximum use of the available airspace while insuring in-suring the highest standards of aviation safety. Overlapping Overlap-ping or crossing routes are kept to an absolute minimum. AJ1 major airports and congested con-gested traffic areas are avoided, avoid-ed, while heavily populated areas are completely bypassed. LOW ALTITUDE navigation practice over closely controlled, con-trolled, published routes is required to insure aircrew proficiency and maintain a strong defense posture. The flights, all well below the speed of sound, provide a natural na-tural variety of simulated combat terrain for fighter crews of the 474th TFW. THEY ARE normally flown five days per week during daylight hours and occasionally oc-casionally continue for about five hours after sunset. Aircraft flying these routes . - average 500 to 1000 feet above the terrain. Ocassionally, marginal weather will cause some of the powerful fighter- bombers to fly over the low-level low-level routes 1000 feet above the highest terrain within ten nautical miles. ALL PRIVATE or commercial commer-cial pilots are asked to familiarize themselves with the routes in the interest of flying safety and are recommended recom-mended by the FAA to remain above 2000 feet near these routes. |
