Show Granger Dorjiis Braves By DAVE WIGHAM Sometimes even if a team loses a game a coach can find a silver lining in the cloud. Such might be the case of Bountiful's 20-0 lose to Granger last Wednesday. TO SOME the score might indicate a rout the game was far from it. In the two previous weeks the Braves had played relatively error free ball-games, ball-games, against Granger the odds caught up with them as fumbles and pass interceptions intercep-tions turned out to be the difference. The errors though were forced according to Coach Waite, "Granger is a good football team and good teams force others into making mistakes". mis-takes". EACH TIME the Braves mounted a drive an error would stop them cold. In all the Braves fumbled four times and had one pass intercepted. But what about the silver lining in the game, to sum it up in one word it would be juniors. COACH WAITE decided to get a good look at the younger Braves in this contest and several of them proved themselves them-selves and could very well see more varsity action this year. Leading the way of the juniors was quarterback Chris Davies. Chris moved the ball club with poise and confidence. Coach Waite now has a tough, but in some ways pleasant, decision as to which one of his quarterbacks he will play Davies or Welling. DEFENSE WAS the biggest noticeable change for the Braves, at one time the Braves had seven juniors on defense and they stopped the potent Granger offense cold. Does this sign mean that in their two remaining league games the Braves will be using us-ing more and more underclassmen? un-derclassmen? Only time will tell. BUT IF I were a betting man I would wager that Davies, Ron Hammer, Larry Hale, John Hazen and Kent Waters will be seeing plenty of action along with other juniors on the squad. The loss to Granger didn't come as a surprise to many people but the score did. Remember last year when Bountiful had one of their best teams, they had a hard time downing Granger who at that time started about 13 juniors. THE BRAVES came out of the contest injury free which is good because they are going to need everyone for this week's battle at Layton. |
