Show By SCOTT PENDLETON A visit by Utah's democrats, state tennis, region cross country and Davis Cup high school band competition all highlight this past week at Bountiful High School. ALSO OF EXTREME Importance Im-portance for the Braves this week is the football team's battle for a visit to the state tournament. This past Tuesday the Braves were host to several of our state's democratic can-' didates, and representatives of some of the hopefuls. Greg Roberts, Norma Matheson, Brian Moss, Rex Strand, Dean Brand, Gil Athay and Gunn McKay all visited the school's auditorium as they took their turns each period of the day. THE PURPOSE of the speeches were to introduce the students to politics and make them aware of some of this year's campaign issues. Wednesday was a big day for sports for braves and squaws as the cross country team attended at-tended the region meet and the girl's tennis team traveled to BYU for the state tennis tournament. tour-nament. OTHER MEMBERS of the team who added to the victory were seniors. Brad Brown, Bob Bennett, Jim Gramoll, Matt Miller and junior Brad Durtschi. In the state tennis tournament tour-nament at BYU several individual in-dividual performances were impressive, but the team, however, failed to place. IN NO. 2 doubles, senior Kelly Frame and sophomore Diane Martineau placed fifth. Also in No. 1 singles, senior Val Carlisle took fourth place, while in No. 2 singles, sophomore Val Crokett placed sixth. Other members of the team who competed were juniors Renae Kerr and Nancy OToole. AT THE UNIVERSITY of Utah Stadium, the Bountiful High Band competed in the Davis Cup competition. The band placed second last year behind Davis High and were expected to do extremely well again this year with student support and a special issue of The Brave honoring them. At :.he time of this writing, no results were available for eporting. In what is definately the most important game this 3eason the Braves take on the Layton Lancers on the Lancer's field at 4 p.m. this afternoon. BOTH TEAMS are currently tied in region play with 2-1 records and this game will decide the second place representative in the state .- ! tournament from Region 2. A busy but very productive week has once again taken " place at Bountiful High as the Braves continue to show their : belief in - "The Power of the B." |
