Show Region 2 Title Still In Doubt By DAVE WIGHAM With only two games remaining in the region race has anything really been accomplished? ac-complished? CLEARFIELD seems to be in the driver's seat for the title outright. The Falcons play Ben Lomond this week, then Layton next week. All they have to do is win one of these games to gain at least a tie for the title and if they win both, as expected, they will be the new Region Two champions. THE BATTLE for second place is the thriller right now. Why so much fuss over second place? Well, the answer is simple. The second place team gets to go to State. The third place team gets to watch. The tie for second will be settled this week, but it won't be final until next week. The two schools tied for second, Bountiful and Layton, face each other this week, so one team will be second, the other third after this week. BUT IF THE winner of their game loses next week, and the loser of their game wins next week, we'll be back where we started this week, tied. And if that does happen, then the second place team will have lost two games and that would bring Ben Lomond and Ogden back into the picture. pic-ture. NEITHER Bountiful nor Layton has an advantage over the other. After playing each other this week, Bountiful tests Viewmont and Layton gets to play Clearfield. The best thing for each of these two teams would be to win this Friday, but only one of them can. Clearfield could give Ben Lomond their third region loss of the year and rum any chances the Scots have at post season action. Viewmont on theother hand could push Ogden out of the picture with a victory over the Tigers this week. THE ONLY TEAM that Is out of the picture right now is Viewmont, but the Vikes are in a position to ruin the seasons for both Ogden and Bountiful. So even though the Vikes are out of it, they play a major role in deciding the second place team from the regioa For Ben Lomond to 6eat Clearfield, a small miracle would have to happen, like Robbie Richeson forgetting to show up, but Viewmont has a definite shot at downing the Tigers of Ogden. AS FAR AS the Bountiful at Layton contest is concerned, you can pick who you want. I have my thoughts, but I'll ' keep them to myself. |
