Show Precautions at Halifax. HALIFAX, N. S., Feb. 14. One hundred hun-dred government officials and inspectors arrived here today from Ottawa to take part in the examination of the steamer i Frederik VIII. which will stop at this port on her way to Copenhagen with Count von Bernstorff and his suite. The steamer, which is expected to arrive here Friday, will not enter the harbor until after nisrhtfaU. government officials said, and will also depart at night. Unusual precautions are being taken to guard the members of the party during their stay here. The steamer will not stop at quarantine, but will enter the harbor and naval -patrpl boats will escort her to an anchorage near shore. It was announced that examination of the cargo would begin tmmediatelv upon the steamer's arrival to determine whether wheth-er the Frederik Vlli carried contraband. |
