Preliminary steps were taken by Salt Lake lodge No. S5, Benevolent and Protective Pro-tective Order of "Elks, last night to provide pro-vide for a rousing reception to the members mem-bers of the second squadron, National Guard of Utah, upon their return to Salt Lake. When the battery boys left for the front the Elks gave them a farewell party par-ty that will be long remembered by the Utah soldiers for tlie enthusiasm and interest that was displayed. It is promised prom-ised that the welcome home will be even more enthusiastic and of greater proportions propor-tions than was the farewell, and that the boys who served on the border will be made tu feel that 1 he state appreciates their services to the nation. As the first move to carry-out its plans Exalted Ruler O. R. Dibblee appointed a strong committee to take up the details, I and the co-operation of every member of i the order was pledged. It is planned by the Elks to ask the mayor to declare a half holiday on the day fixed for tlie return nf the soldiers and the city commission will be asked to decorate the streets. The school children will be marshaled at a special point of vantage and all the children in the various va-rious orphanages will be cared for by the Elks. The governor, whn is an Elk. and his staff, the members of the legislature and state, city and county officials will be invited to part icipate In the parade of welcome, and the city generally will be urged to make this occasion one of the most notable in -the history of the community. com-munity.
