The tenseness resulted from a motion offered by Mayor , W. Mont Ferry that a petition submitted by the Daynes-Beebe Music company be filed. The petkion requested several weeks ago that the petitioning company should : be allowed to construct the new front to ; its place of business on Main street on t the line of the old one, sixteen and one- half inches out into the street J'rom the , property line. The petitfon was, at the time ol" submission, referred to the com-I com-I mittee of the. whole. In the meantime, the improvement of the business biock as to its frontal appearanre progressed. When the petition was reported back from the 1 committee of the whole yesterday morn-'' ing with Mayor Ferry's motion attached J the proposed improvement had been com- f pleted some lime since. j Commissioner Karl A. Scheid registered j a protest by offering a motion that the 1 petition be denied. Commissioner H. Shearman voted with Commissioner Scheid j for 'denial. Commissioners Hebex M. j Wells and Herman H. Green voted against j Commissioner Scheid's motion. 1 1 remained re-mained for the mayor to cast the decid- ' ing vote to determine whether or not the petition should be denied. Being informed j of the completion of the' work he voted j against the motion to deny and the mo- I tion to receive and file xJ accordingly j carried. |
