The proposition to pave the state road through the county came up for consideration con-sideration on a motion of Benjamin Knurl -sen that the local support the paving of two loops of the proposed paved highway, one through Vineyard and Ike View and one through, Benjamin and Lake Shore. This brought on a spirited discussion on paving and taxes, and it soon developed that there will be opposition to the paving pav-ing on the part of some of the farmers, at leasi till such time as the farmers' taxes are reduced or equalized with the taxe of other taxpayers if they are not so equalized now. It was claimed at the-meeting the-meeting bv several speakers that the farm property was assessed disproportionately hish,' as compared with other property, and a' motion that the proposed highway paving be opposed until such time as the tax laws and .their application are so amended as to equalize the taxes of farm property was made by Andrew Knudsen and unanimously- carried. |
