Show LEOPARDS WILL HAVE TUSSLE VITH TOOELE A game of much importance in the Salt Ivake division is carded tomorrow afternoon, after-noon, when the East high Leopards run against the Tooele smeltermen In the East high coop. The ga.niA will decide the chances of the Leopards to stay in the run for the section honors. At the present time the Tooele and West high teams are tied for the lead with the Leopards one game in the rear. A win for the East high tomorrow tomor-row puts them in a tie with Tooele for second place, while a Tooele victory places the East high out of the running and leaves the battle between the West high and the smeltermen. One of the biggest surprises of the year has been the showing of the Tooele five. In the first game against the West high the smeltermen showed a joke outrit and at that time looked to be the weakest quintette in the section. But the smeltermen hit their stride once on ihe home floor and took both the Leopards ana Panthers -down the line. Now Uiat they are going at a fast clip it is expected they will maintain this speed to the end and Tooele is banking its basketball bas-ketball team against the best that the city high schools have. It will he remembered that Tooele entered en-tered the srate tourney last year regarded as the weakest team In the meet, but at the finish Coach West's boys commanded com-manded respect for their great playing. The lea!i lust the first night but on the second nnu third nights the boys showed in wonderful style. One of the big factors in the recent success of the smeltermen has been the addition of Wilf Gee, one of the greatest centers in the state. He was out of the lineup for a short time, but when the team appeared to be on the downgrade he came out and helped in the comeback. The Leopards have been working hard for this battle for it means their elimination elimi-nation should they lose. Numerous changes have been necessitated due to injuries in-juries and other causes and the present lineup looks good for the balance of the season. One advantage in favor of the Leopards is their home floor. The little coop has baffled many outside fives and this is Tooele's tn st game at the east side. Whether it will have much effect on their playing remains to be seen, although Coach West of Tooele believes they will play the same class of ball as on the home lot. The East high student body will be out in full force. Interest has been gradually increasing and the crowd should rival the West-Fast bunch. Milton Chipman has been decided upon for referee. |
