Show Board of Education issues official strike statement FARMINGTON-Tuesday evening, even-ing, the Board of Education issues an official statement regarding a potential teacher strike. Under the signature of Lynn Summerhays, president of the board, the statement reads as follows: "The Davis County Board of Education believes that adequate funding of public education is the number one priority facing the State Legislature and Utah citizens in general. A quality education is our best investment for ensuring a secure and prosperous future. To this end the Board of Education is committed to working with political leaders and the community at large to increase funding for education, to provide better compensation for teachers, and to increase vital resources that improve educational quality. "While the Board is committed to the above goals, the Board believes that a future teacher walkoutstrike is neither an appropriate ap-propriate nor effective means of achieving these ends. Such actions at this time reduce public support, divide organizations that are otherwise other-wise united in their support for schools, and are disruptive of services ser-vices to students. In light o these considerations the Board of Education Edu-cation encourages teachers to avoid a strikewalkout as a means of securing funding improvements. We believe that education programs and opportunities for students are an overriding priority. "The Board directs the District administration to prepare a contingency con-tingency plan to deter a teacher strikewalkout and to ensure that students continue to be educated with as little disruption to their schooling as possible.
