Show Help available for children with behavior problems Dear Editor Having had a son out of control because of behavior problems and then two years of drugs, I want to share my experiences these past few years. My son had lots of problems at school because of attention deficit disorder and other learning problems. prob-lems. He managed to stay in school by using prescribed drugs and a lot of good teachers. My son had a lot going for him, and we had hope for his future because of his many talents tal-ents and intelligence. This all faded as he became involved in-volved in the drug world. He became a modem day hippy with all the drugs related to that era. He managed to finish his last two years of high school, but he wonders what he learned. His summer after graduation was spent sleeping during the day and using drugs at night. He became ami everything, especially family. His language toward us was unprintable. unprin-table. In the end he was in such a state of stupor we had to face the fact that he was in trouble, and we had to quit denying he had a drug problem. We found a treatment center that was really tough, long-term, and taught those being treated to understand themselves, have good self-esteem, be totally honest in their lives and build strong family relationships. Being a nonprofit organization, we could afford the cost and our son can stay in treatment as long as he feels the need. This center treats all kinds of behavior problems, not just drugs. I am so grateful there is help available for the child who has not been successful in other centers or the child who needs long-term treatment. La Von Reeve Centerville |
