VnV- j f ' w -f I I m f I V " I ' r I j dARFIELD Pat Martinez, an enthusiastic, happy employee on the Pioneer Adult Rehabilitation Center (PARC) custodial crew, has received receiv-ed the 1989 William M. Usdane Severely Handicapped Worker of the Year Award from NISH (National Industries for the Severely Se-verely Handicapped). She will be presented with the national award at the annual NISH convention to be held March 27 in Atlanta, Ga. Martinez will also make a trip to the White House for an audience with President George Bush. r All expenses will be paid for her and an escort to both Georgia and ' Washington, D.C 1 The NISH award is given yearly to recognize the achievements of individuals who receive employment employ-ment opportunities and benefits from the Javitts-Wagner-O'Day Program. Although Martinez has cerebral palsy, is intellectually handicapped, has hearing loss which affects her speech and is physically disabled with gross motor impairments that affect her ability to walk, she exhibited ex-hibited outstanding achievement and exceptional character in living and coping with her disabilities, particularly in the work place. Currently, she is doing a commendable com-mendable job on extremely physical duties as a contract employee on the PARC crew cleaning the procurement procure-ment building at Hill Air Force r Pat Martinez, described as an enthusiastic, happy employee won the 1989 William M. Usdane Severely Handicapped Worker of the Year Award. During the'trip to receive her award in Washington, Wash-ington, D.C, Martinez is scheduled to meet with President George Bush. Base, a job she has held for nearly three years. Martinez started working for PARC after her graduation from Layton High School. She began as a fastener sorter under a PARC contract con-tract with Hill Air Force Base. Her exceptional attitude allowed her to control worker, assisting the supervisor with re-ads and checking on numbers and other details left undone by other employees. Robert P. Daniels, executive di rector of PARC, said, "Everything Pat has accomplished has been through perseverance; her determination deter-mination to lead a normal life, to be independent and productive is evidenced by all that she has achieved." r |
