Show Lady Braves use inside power to defeat Jordan By TOM HARALDSEN B OUNTIFXJL The Lady Braves of Bountiful High turned to their strong inside game and the superior outside shooting of Maegan MacKay to defeat Jordan 62-44 in Region Six girls' basketball action Friday. Bountiful improved to 5-1 in league with the win, setting the stage for Tuesday's showdown at Judge. The Beetdiggers remained close with the host Braves most of the first half, trailing Bountiful just 32-26 32-26 at intermission. Jessica Olson had an outstanding first half for Bountiful, scoring 14 points before halftime. In the third quarter, Bountiful Boun-tiful came alive on both ends of the floor, driving aggressively inside and shutting down the 'Diggers on the boards. With MacKay and Nikki Hanni getting hot, the Braves built a 46-29 lead as the quarter closed. Hanni and Heidi Huffman were particularly particular-ly tough on the defensive rebounds, giving Jordan few, if any, second chances on offense. Meanwhile, the 'Diggers were forced to foul Bountiful, Boun-tiful, which increased its lead to 47-31 47-31 by quarter's end. MacKay had eight points and Hanni five in the period, while Jordan made just 2-15 shots from the field. The final period was more of the same. MacKay hit all four of her outside shots, enroute to a game-high game-high 25 points, and Hanni continued to control the boards. In the second half, Bountiful made 11-21 shots from the field, compared to just 7-29 for Jordan. Olson finished with 16 points, Hanni had nine and Cody Poole six. Jordan was paced by Andy Hen-drickson Hen-drickson with 14 points, while both Kristy Brown and Kristy Deem had 10 each. Bountiful will also visit Granite on Friday at 3:30 p.m. WOODS CROSS 48 MURRAY 37 At Murray, the Lady Wildcats won their fourth game in a row to improve to 4-2 in league. Woods Cross slowly pulled away in the third period, leading 30-27, but salted the game away in the fourth quarter. Dawn Britton and Amy Turman combined for 17 fourth four-th quarter points, including 1 1 of 15 from the line. Britton bombed a three-pointer in the first period as well Turman led the scoring with 14, Britton had 12, Andrea Wilcox 11 and Maggie Allen seven for Woods Cross, which converted 17 of 23 free throws. The Wildcats travel to Jordan on Tuesday and host Judge on Friday, both at 3:30 p.m. |
