Show Displeased with postal service Dear Editor Attached is my letter to Mr. John Hawley, Officer-in-Charge, U.S. Postal Service in Bountiful. You have my permission to print this letter. Dear Mr. Hawley: Eliminating window service on Saturdays will reduce costs, but will reduce revenues even more. The only time that working people can go to the post office to mail or pick up packages or special delivery mail is on Saturday. Since postal carriers are unwilling unwill-ing to get out of the comfort of their trucks to deliver packages to their the busiest time for the Bountiful office is proof that your objective is to inconvenience customers. Any other business would be expanding services to its customers on Saturdays to meet the higher demand (service was extended one hour on Saturdays, but it wasn't publicized. Perhaps in hopes of proving it wasn't needed). If a day must be sacrificed, why not your slowest weekday? The only explanation is that your agency's strategy is to inconvenience inconve-nience your customers to the point where we'll support a rate hike which will go for pay raises under the guise of restoring service. In a world of Fedex, UPS, computers com-puters and fax machines; reductions in service, higher prices and anti-consumer anti-consumer attitudes will eventually result in your rightful elimination from the market-place. Ron Draughon Bountiful customers' doorsteps (as UPS does), patrons are forced to go to the post office to get their packages. If closed on Saturday, then they will pile up in your building. This will not happen because everyone will just use UPS instead. The idea of a self-service parcel unit will result in incredibly long lines, as many cannot read or follow instructions, and will also result in the abandonment of the postal system for UPS contractors. Restricting the hours of notification notifica-tion for redelivery to between 7 and 8:30 a.m. will tie up phone lines so that nobody will get through. 1 Everyone is getting ready to go to work at that time anyway. Once again, we'll use UPS. Since certifiedregistered letters must be picked up at the post office, these will never be delivered.
