Show Simple request results in commission dispute By JUDY JENSEN Editor FARMINGTON A simple request re-quest for approval on a budget item resulted in a name-calling session at last Wednesday's Davis County Commission meeting. Commissioner William Peters called for approval of an expenditure expen-diture of $30,000 as dues owed to the Utah Association of Counties. Commissioner William (Dub) Lawrence prefaced his vote on the issue with an explanation as to how the increase occurred. He said that he had spearheaded an opposition movement when the association asked for a 100 percent increase in dues. "They wanted to charge us $40,000 and although the other commissioners," said Lawrence referring to Commissioners Commis-sioners Peters and Gayle Stevenson, "didn't object to that, I thought it was too much." "You've made a couple of points that are absolutely false again, and I'm going to have to straighten you out which seems to be my lot in life," responded Peters. "We did not support the increase. We thought it was too much also." Lawrence then said, "I lead the opposition." "You couldn't lead your way out of this room," quipped Peters. "If you want to take credit for it, go ahead. You seem to want to take credit on everything else that happens in the county," Peters said, speaking to Lawrence and added that Lawrence would want everyone every-one to think he rode a white horse to work. "No, but I saved the county $10,000," said Lawrence. "And I'm sure you want everyone every-one to think you ride a white horse to work every morning," Peters repeated. re-peated. "Nope. I drive an old van," said Lawrence. The matter was brought to a vote and unanimously approved |
