Show St. Olaf's student honored Salt Lake Valley Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution Revo-lution has selected Amika Taniguchi, eighth grader at St. Olaf s School, as winner of itr American History Month Essay Contest. Ami Fullmer, a classmate in Mrs. Mommsen's eighth grade class, is runner-up. This year's essay topic was "An American Inventor - 1775-1850." Amika chose to write about John Deere and his steel plow. Ami's subject was Elias Howe, inventor of the sewing machine. Both girls will be honored at the chapter's Feb. 17 meeting. Amika's winning essay will be forwarded to the State Society forjudging. This is the second year that Mrs. Mommsen's eighth grade class at St. Olaf s has participated in the DAR essay contest Since last year's winner also received state honors, the chapter chose to present the school with a large nylon flag of the USA. |
