Show Resident is angry over plight of Utah teachers Dear Editor I'm angry! I'm angry that teachers are being forced to extreme measures to get the attention of the governing powers in Utah. I'm angry that a society who puts such a high value on children, continues to ignore the statistics that prove that overcrowding in classrooms has a direct correlation with emotional trauma, mental stagnation, drug abuse and delinquency. I'm angry that a verbal few can intimidate our elected officials into misappropriating funds that are vital to our state's future. I'm angry that some who understand the overwhelming problems in edu cation remain silent, when their opinion could sway government officials. I'm angry that some people say, 'L" you're so angry, why don't you quit teaching?" I want to teach. I want to teach in Utah. But I also want to survive, and to provide my own children with advantages that seem almost impossible on a teacher's salary. If I didn't like teaching I wouldn't teach. If I didn't like Utah, I wouldn't live here. I'm angry that I must look at other options. Angry and sad! Kolette McClurg Centerville |
