Show Cousins called as mission presidents The First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter-day Saints has named two Davis County men as new mission presidents, presi-dents, and co incidentally the two are first cousins. Duane B. Welling, 59, Bountiful, is retiring as corporate cor-porate counsel for a Salt Lake City bank after seven years. He previously was in private law practice for 24 years. President Welling is a native of Salt Lake City and a graduate of the University Univer-sity of Utah, where he also earned a law degree. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a staff judge advocate. He has served the church as a missionary, stake president, bishop, welfare agent and elders quorum president. He and his wife Carla Iverson Welling are the parents of five. Lawrence E. Welling, 64, Kays-ville, Kays-ville, recently retired as Superinten dent of the Davis County School District. A native of Farmington, President Welling graduated from Weber State College and the University Uni-versity of Utah. He also holds a doctorate in education from BYU. He had served the church as a regional representative, stake president, presi-dent, Sunday School teacher, bishop's counselor and stake high councilman. He and his wife, Kathryn Peterson Peter-son Welling have five children. The pair will assume their responsibilities respon-sibilities at mid-year. According to Mrs. Lawrence, it was a very rare coincidence that the cousins were called at the same time. 'We were very surprised," she said, and explained that Lawrence's father and Duane 's father were brothers. The men will be given their assignments later this spring. Scott has held leadership positions in his scout troop and ward. He completed com-pleted Powderhorn leadership training train-ing and the Order of the Arrow. Scott is a junior at Viewmont High School. He is active in the choral department as a member of Concert Choir and a cast member in the play "42nd Street.' ror his fcagle project he worked with the mayor of West Bountiful to prepare a flyer to inform the residents of West Bountiful of an important city meeting.
