Show Junior Talent Show Pleases Audience Over 900 patrons of the annual Junior Talent Show sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Cedar City were on hand last Thursday evening eve-ning to see 19 youngsters from four to 17 years of age perform. Selection of winners in three age groups was done by the audience aud-ience through the use of an applause ap-plause meter. Judges reading the meter were Morgan Rollo, Dr. Royden C. Braithwaite and Arthur Ar-thur Higbee. Age divisions were made at eight,"13'and 17-years of age. Therol McArthur, chairman of the committee in charge of the fifth annual event indicated that tie show is sponsored for the purpose of discovering, developed develop-ed and encouraging talent Imong young people. In auditions two weeks before almost 100 young people from the entire southern Utah area tried out for a spot on the show, McArthur said. Winners in the three groups of the show were: Lucinda Loer, fwr year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Loer, singing "Let the Sunshine In." A novelty twirling and dance routine topped the second sec-ond group, nine and 13 inclusive. It was by Ann Sherratt and Bif y Rice, both 13 years old. Lane Tait, playing his own arrangement of "Jealousy" on his cornet, copped first place in the upper division. He is from Orderville. Second place winners were Patricia Pa-tricia Barrick, six, song and dance, from Hurricane; Vickie Ann Taylor and Glennis Smith, nine, vocal duet, and Heber Lund of Paragonah, 14, an accordion solo. Each contestant received a ball point pen, courtesy of John Crab-tree, Crab-tree, and first and second prizes for the three divisions were awarded by Woolworths, R. D. Smtih, manager; Clove Electric, V. J. Clove, manager; Lee Empey, Dix Tire Shop, Claude Dix, manager; man-ager; Milne Truck Line and Sam Gentry. Free motion picture passes pass-es were given each youngster who auditioned. Master of ceremonies for the outstanding show was Robert Hey borne. Proceeds from the show, McAr-thus McAr-thus stated, will be used to foster activities for community development devel-opment in relation to the boys and girls, such as Little League, playground equipment and other worthwhile projects. |
