Show Cedar High School Baseball Nine Takes Last Inninq Yin from Dixie Cedar City Redmen baseball nine put on a last inning rally Tuesday afternoon on the local diamond to take the measure of Dixie High School in a 9 to 8 contest. The win for Coach Ray Engle-stead Engle-stead and his youthful club put them in the lead of the five team race for Dixie Division honors. The loss for Dixie threw the Fly- ers into a tie with Hurricane for second place. Last Thursday the Redmen shellacked shel-lacked the Valley Buffaloes in a 47 to 1 contest at the Cedar City baseball park for their second win of the season. Tuesday, however, was the big day and it was especially big for Kenneth Jones who stepped to the plate with the bases loaded, one away and his team trailing by two points. Batting right handed Jones slammed one over first base and the ball rolled approximately ap-proximately 300 yards and emptied empt-ied the bases putting the Redmen , In the lead and giving them the win. The inning started out with Reed Heywood flying out to left field. Clayton Petty, second man to step into the batter's box, was Safe at first nn an nrrnr hr tVio pitcher. Bevan Corry was advanced advanc-ed as he was hit by a pitched ball and Gale Simkins loaded the bases when he slammed a drive to the shortstop that was too hot to handle. It was at this point, with the ,game standing at 8 to 6 for Dixie, that Jones slammed out his all-important triple. The Redmen had taken an early ear-ly lead behind the pitching of Michael Fra.me, "scoring in the first three innings and holding Dixie scoreless. It wasn't until the top of the seventh and final inning that Dixie took the lead. They scored four in the top half of the frame. Frame was relieved in the sixth inning by Jon Isom after six and 13 Innings. Isom was credited with the win. Dixie had forged into the league lead last Thursday when they gave the Hurricane Tigers a sound 21 to 9 trouncing. Today, Thursday, will close the first half with Dixie meeting Valley and Hurricane playing Enterprise. Cedar, Ce-dar, with a one-half game lead, will be idle. Monday at 3:30 p. m. the Red-men Red-men will open the second half of play on the local park tangling with the Hurricane Tigers, the only team to defeat them this season.
