Show Bronco Baseball Nine Trips Southern Rebels The College of Southern Utah Bronco baseball team got the season off to a flying start last Friday afternoon when they downed the St. George Rebels 13 to 6 In a game played in St. George. This week the Broncos and Rebels travel to Carbon College at Price and Snow at Ephraim. CSU meets the Carbon Eagles today, Thursday while Snow and Dixie tangle. Friday afternoon the Broncos move to Snow and Dixie moves to Carbon. In Friday afternoon games the Broncos piled up five hits, including in-cluding homers by Sherman Lee and Gary Anderson and a triple by Rex Erickson in the first inning in-ning and pushed across eight runs. The Broncos behind the pitching pitch-ing of Ray Robinson held the Rebels scorless for the first five innings. The Dixie crew scored two in the sixth and four in the ninth on eight scattered hits. The CSU crew totaled 15 hits in the nine inning game and both teams were charged with a single error. Robinson and Jerry Bertleson, who came In for relief re-lief in the bottom of the eighth combined their efforts to score 10 strikeouts. Six Broncos went down via the strikeout route. In addition to his first homer Lee knocked out a clean triple for his second hit in four trips to the plate at Dixie. Erickson hit two triples and a double to lead the Broncos and Anderson posted a .500 for the game singling in the fourth after his first inning round-tripper. His first inning homer came with two men on bases. In the four games that the Broncos have played this season, one conference and three against high schools in the area, batting averages have been compiled with Gary Anderson on top of the Bronco list with a .584 average, according to Coach Cleo Petty. Top ten on the Bronco batting average list and their averages are as follows: Anderson, .584; Sherman Lee, .563: John Wood, 533; Jack Sopcr, .500; John Buck, ,460; Rex Erickson, .428; Gordon Sargent, 333; Jerry Bertleson, .333; Clinton Rcper, .294; and Ray Robinson, Rob-inson, .230..
