Show Educator Commends Junior High in National Publication i ; V f I ; , j DR. GERTRUDE LEWIS The Cedar City Junior High School came In for considerable .national recognition, recently, particularly for its part In developing de-veloping the Cedar City Art Exhibit Ex-hibit and the exploratory program pro-gram conducted. These Items were Incorporated In a report published by the United States Department of Education. The report was compiled by Dr. Gertrude Lewis of the department de-partment of education following a comprehensive study of Junior High schools throughout the country. During her brief stay in Cedar City Mrs. Lewis met with faculty members of the local Junior High School and visited classrooms and observed extra-curricular activities ac-tivities of the students. In ner final report which, appeared ap-peared in the USDE Bulletin, she gave considerable space to the part the Junior High School played play-ed In the development of the now nationally famous Cedar City Art Exhibit. Considerable time was also spent on the exploratory explora-tory program or "learn by doing" program of the school. In commenting on the development develop-ment of the Art Exhibit, which was sfarted at the Junior High, the report said, "This Is the kind of education that really has effect ef-fect in the lives of youth, by filling fill-ing their lives with an appreciation apprecia-tion for the fine things of life and crowding out the baser attitudes." at-titudes." In addition to the report a picture of Don Ford giving council coun-cil to one the local students was incorporated In the bulletin. Much deserved credit was given to Mr. Ford for the excellent councilling and guidance program pro-gram he was spearheading at the school. |
