Show Osborne To Conduct Track and Field Standard Bearers to Y Invitational The Brigham Young University Invitational Track and Field meet to be held at Provo Friday and Saturday will afford the first opportunity in junior college competition for Coach Bruce Osborne and his 18 aspirants. Coach Osborne and 18 thincladsmen from the Bronco school will leave Friday afternoon to participate in the annual event. It will be the first major track meet for the local men. A list of the men and the events that they will enter was posted today by Coach Os-, borne. Bill Meador and Bill Iverson will both be entered in the 100 and 220 yard dashes. In time trials this week Meador and Iverson have clocked the 100 yard event at 10.2 and 10.3 respectively. re-spectively. Iverson has the better bet-ter time of 22.7 for the 220 with Meador timed at 23 flat. Will Enter 440 Ross Marshall and,' Lary Adams will enter the 410 yard dash event. Times this posted week for time only was 55.2 and 55.5 for Marshall and Adams, respectively. respect-ively. In the 880 yard run three men have entered including Don L. Rasmussen, Boyd Carpenter and McKay Anderson. Best time of the three is Rasmussen at 2:08. Leo Prestwich and Lee Chamberlain Cham-berlain will run the mile and Boyd Vvarenskl will tackle the gruelling two-mile event. Prest-wich's Prest-wich's best time is 5:16.2. Low and high hurdles will be run by Eud Nielson. He has cleared the lows at 20.5 and the highs at 16.7. J. N. Webster will team with Nielson in the high hurdles, Osborne said. Webster will lead the Broncos in the broadjump. He has posted a 21 ft. 4 in. mark in practice trails. Anderson will also participate partici-pate in this event. Last year's ICAC polevault winner, John Wood, will be on hand for that event again this year and will be expected to garner individual honors again this season. Wood and Adams Team Up Wood will team with Adams in the highjump. Wood's best mark Is 5-11 , while Adams has cleared 5-8 this season. Kenneth Benson has showed a lot of promise in the shot put. He has plummeted the 16 lb. steel ball 42 ft. 10 Inches in practice drills this season. Also entered in the event will be Leon Mason. Mason is at present leading lead-ing discus throwers. He has thrown the disc 119 ft 2 inches followed by Garry. Jenkins with a mark of 117-8 and Benson 112-4. Gary Robinson will carry the Javelin throw burden. His best toss to date is 159-2. Two relays will be run at the annual meet in Provo including the 880 yard and mile. Tentative setup for the mile puts Anderson, Carpenter, Rassmussen and Marshall Mar-shall at 410 yards each. The 880 team will be composed of Meador, Iverson, Adams and Nielson. Competition at the BYU invlta-tiona invlta-tiona will be mostly from ICAC schools and will give a good pre-conference pre-conference indication of the potential pot-ential team strength. Only other Junior college team that might be entered is Mesa Junior College Col-lege of Grand Junction, Colo. |
