Show STUDENTS ATTEND MODEL UN MEET Five students from Cedar City High School traveled to the University Uni-versity of Utah last week end to take part in the first Model United Unit-ed Nations Assembly for high school students ever held in the United States. Wesley Bryant, a Cedar High School delegate, was one of five state high school students cited for honorable mention in the 29th annual UN Contest as a special banquet Friday evening held in conjunction with the Model UN Assembly. Kay Dawn Pace, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anthon Pace, New Harmony, was fifth-place winner in the UN contest. She is a junior jun-ior at Cedar City High School and she received a loving cup and student membership in the Utah Association for the UN for her efforts. Award was made at Friday evening's banquet. The five local students included includ-ed Bryant, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orson J. Bryant; Bernett Baldwin, Bald-win, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Ber-nard Baldwin; Alice Cane, daughter daugh-ter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert W. Cane; Larry Olsen, son of Mr. Mrs. Foyer Olson, and Myrna Walker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Walker. Richard E. Gillis accompanied the group representing the high school faculty. Wesley received a student membershiu in the Utah As sociation for the UN from DrJ Franklin Harris, association president pres-ident and former president of Brigham Young University and the Utah State Agricultural College. Col-lege. Each high school attending represented a different country actually belonging to the U N. The local group acted as the delegation from Haiti. All meetings dealt with the vital Issues which now face the UN Itself a3 it meets In New York. Each high school group slanted its participation in the discussions to foster the best Interests In-terests of the country it represented. represent-ed. The entire program was con ducted for the purpose of giving students a realistic understanding understand-ing of the UN, its problems and its operations. All sessions were conducted exactly as those currently cur-rently being held In New York. |
