Show $17,700 IRON COUNTY RECREATION FUND ALLOCATED; BERYL GETS LION'S SHARE Funds for recreation purposes, raised through a county and school district levy, were allocated allo-cated to the various communities Tuesday, by the county recreation recrea-tion committee, in meeting with representatives from the various towns. A total of $17,724.68 is available for this purpose, half on a county levy and half on a school district levy. The program was started last year with funds distributed and from all indications, very wisely used. Reports were given by the representatives of the communty Tuesday, indicating that the program pro-gram had been of tremendous benefit In providing recreation facilities. . Not all of the funds were used Left Over Funds during the year because of delays de-lays In acquiring property, or working out cooperative pro grams with the church. In cases where the funds have not yet been used, the money will remain re-main with the community for expenditure ex-penditure during the current year. In the first year large sums were budgeted to the smaller communities In order that badly bad-ly reeded facilities could be provided. pro-vided. This was done with the idea that the larger communities, where facilities were already available, would receive a larger portion of the total fund after the urgent needs of the small communities com-munities had been met. The Beryl area received the second largest amount in the current cur-rent budget, which, it was explained ex-plained by the committee chairman, chair-man, Warren Bulloch, was to make it possible for that area to complete an extensive project of providing a central recreation center that was started last year. The area received $2,000 from the fund last year, and has added a considerable amount to this through community fund raising projects. An additional $5,000 was appropriated this year, which it Is expected will make It possible to complete the project at least to a point where it can be utilized. util-ized. Newcastle received $1,300 last year, but received no additional funds this year. Cedar City received $3,800 last voir with 7fWWI Vinrtrrntarl fnp this year. Parowan received $2,-500 $2,-500 last year and a similar amount In the current budget. Other Budgets Amounts budgeted for the other oth-er communities, with last year's budget in parenthesis, were as follows: Taiagonah, $824.69 ($1,-500); ($1,-500); Modena, $300 ($900); Summit Sum-mit $250 ($1,000); Enoch. $250 ($1200); Kanarraville $000 ($1,-300.00). Each community will be expected ex-pected to match the county funds, either through facilities already provided, through additional addi-tional funds, or by labor, so that each project will be a cooperative coopera-tive effort between the community, communi-ty, county and school district. A total of $1000.00 was held In reserve by the committee to meet any emergency that may arise. Cedar City agreed to continue the program of providing free use of the municipal swimming pool to residents of other communities com-munities of the county on speci fic days. Representatives at the meeting reported that this program pro-gram had been the finest recreational rec-reational opportunity for residents resi-dents of their communities that had ever been enjoyed by them, and were high In their praise of the Cedar City officials for their generosity in the program. Pool Use Offered Under the program Cedar City will again issue free swim tickets to neighbors from other towns who report at the pool at des ignated times. The school district will also cooperate by providing transportation to Cedar City and return at a very nominal fee. Members of the recreation committee com-mittee included Warren Bulloch, chairman; W. Clair Rowley, secretary sec-retary and treasurer; Jess Guy-man, Guy-man, J. S. Prestwich, Samuel Abbott Ab-bott and Ianthus Wright. Representatives attending the meeting Tuesday were Mayor Arnold Anderson and Farrell Peterson, Cedar City, S. M. Clark. Bruce Decker and Marvin Graff, Parowan; Wm. Boardman and Revere Robinson, Taragonah; Ernest Er-nest Hcffner, Newcastle; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Force, Modena; Bruno Bru-no Blasl, Beryl, and Earl Murle, Enoch. |
