Show CSU flir Cadets Hold Final Review of Year; Outstanding Award Honors Lee Chamberlain Cadets of the Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps at the College of Southern Utah paraded parad-ed in their final review of the year on the campus Wednes-iday Wednes-iday fr.nd will not assemble for military drill again until classes begin next autumn. The review, which featured 120 air science cadets and 32 coed members of the sponsor corps, was witnessed by local citizens and college students and faculty, with Charles R. Hunter of the U S A C board of trustees as honored hon-ored guest. Also in the reviewing stand were Dr. Daryl Chase, CSU dhector; Prof. D. C. Schmutz, military coordinator, and the air science staff headed by Lt. Col. H. P. Anderson. A demonstration of intricate drill maneuvers by the sponsor corps, drilled by Cadet Major Robert Frame, was preceded by an award of merit to outstanding cadet Lee L. Chamberlain of Oiderville. Mr. Chamberlain was selected to receive the Convair Cadet Award of 1954, given annual to ore cadet in each of the nation's AF ROTC detachments who has successfully passed all requirements require-ments for flight training and enrollment en-rollment in advanced ROTC. He has maintained a straight "A" grade in air science throughout his freshman and sophomore years. The award, consisting of a mounted model of a Convair delta-wing interceptor aircraft and a parchment scroll, commended Mr. Chamberlain for his contribution con-tribution to the nation's air strength. The final review was led by Cadet Lt. Col. Kenneth Frost of Kanab, group commander. He was assisted by Cadet Majors William W. Crane, Circleville, group executive; Kenneth M. Topham, Parowan, adjutant; Donald Keeney, Providence, Ky., training officer; Stephen Adams, Parowan, and James B. Hickman, Hick-man, Tooele, squadron commanders. command-ers. Prior to the annual review, the C S U air science department had been formally inspected by Maj. James D. Deatherage, U S A F, representing the AF ROTC commandant com-mandant at Air University Command Com-mand Headquarters, Montgomery, Montgom-ery, Ala. Major Deatherage came to Cedar City by Air Force plane. |
